Did You Know: Strange Laws?

It is against the law to sound your horn without just cause or out of anger. The Highway Code outlines that it is also illegal to sound your horn in built-up areas between 11:30 pm and 7:00 am.

It is illegal to destroy or deface money. Under the Currency and Banknotes Act of 1928, you can be subject to a fine not exceeding one pound if you damage or deface money.

Carrying a plank along a pavement is an enforceable offence as a public nuisance crime under the Metropolitan Police Act of 1839.

The Salmon Act 1986 makes it illegal to handle salmon suspiciously.  Put it straight in your bag when you leave the supermarket.

It is illegal to walk a cow  through the streets between 10am and 7pm. And if you do, you’ll be in even more trouble if you don’t clean up after it. Or your sheep. Furthermore, it is illegal to be drunk whilst in charge of a cow.

It is illegal to queue jump on the Underground. This is to stop people pushing to get on the trains and accidentally falling on the tracks.

Don’t be offended if the next time you’re in a taxi the driver asks you if you have the plague or smallpox. They are entitled to do this under the Public Health Act 1936.

Resist the temptation to gamble next time you go to the public library. You could be arrested.

Next time you find a dead whale or sturgeon on the Beach, you must contact King Charles and ask him if he would like it. Or suffer the consequences.
