Maths Puzzle

 by Tom Fairman

I hope you had fun working out the age last week. The correct answer was that they were born in 1892, so they were 44 in 442 = 1936.

This week we will be looking at cryptarithms to coincide with the start of the National Cipher Challenge some pupils are taking part in. www.cipherchallenge.org

A college girl has the unusual palindromic name Nora Lil Aron. It is unusual because it can be written as a simple multiplication sum

NORA x L = ARON where each letter represents a number.

You can assume neither number starts in 0, but can you work out the unique solution?

Happy puzzling!
