I was inspired by the work of Ravel, a French impressionist composer who incorporates vivid imagery of emotions and atmospheres into his work. More specifically, it was the first movement of Ravel's "Gaspard de la Nuit", a three-movement piece for piano that directly influenced this piece as it was its shimmering textures which heavily resemble light reflecting off the surface of water which I wanted to encapsulate in a painting. To do this, I took inspiration from the French impressionist painter, Monet, and his ability to create an 'impression' of a place/mood/atmosphere through his work, using his unique style to further influence my outcome.
