by Mark Hipperson
It was fantastic to see pupils from both GCSE and A level come together to attend the first Economics and Business Society seminar, masterfully delivered by Mr Fisher giving an insight into venture capital and private equity.
The seminar gave a clear understanding of how enterprise and VC firms alike benefit from this form of financing and the dangers and pitfalls for both based on his own experiences in the market. Whilst not covered in any detail as part of the A level specification at present, private equity will form part of the updated AQA specification scheduled for first teaching in 2025. A big thank you to Mr Fisher for such an engaging talk!
Over the remainder of the academic year, the Economics and Business Society will be running more seminars, exploring areas of both subjects outside of the confines of the A level and GCSE courses. They are open to all pupils and year groups who are interested, not just those studying the subject. If you would like to know more about an aspect of Business or Economics, email M.hipperson@pgs.org.uk and we will do what we can to add it to the agenda!
