House Shout!

 by Laila Stirling

On Friday the 13th of October, our four PGS houses competed in House Shout! A competition where each house sang a song together in front of the four amazing judges, Mr Wickes, Mr Doyle, Mr Hemmings and Dr Thackery.

The day started with everybody in their tutor room where the tutors told them all about what would happen during the day such as, what rooms they would be in and when they would eat a delicious house lunch. The four houses then split off to their separate rooms to begin their first practice. I am in Eastwood and to start off the day, we went to the Sixth Form CafĂ© to do a run through of our song, ‘I’m Gonna be (500 Miles’ by The Proclaimers, a Scottish rock duo formed in 1983 by the twin brothers, Craig and Charlie Reid.

Whitcombe and Summers house went off to practise their song, ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ by King Harvest, a rock band. Grant and Barton practised their song, ‘Valerie’ by Steve Winwood and Will Jennings and Hawkey and Smith also practised their singing extravaganza of Queen's ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘We Will Rock You’.

After a long day of rehearsals and practises, everybody gathered together in the Quad to watch everybody’s songs.

The event started with Hawkey and Smith, they performed very loudly and clearly! Then moved on to Eastwood and Latter who were very good in timing and volume. Summers and Whitcombe followed with a great use of props and dances. The final song was Grant and Barton who brought a very uplifting performance to the Quad. After all had been performed, the judges left to discuss the winners and everybody was left feeling the adrenaline.

Then, a couple of Sixth Form students played some lovely tunes while everybody was waiting, but then the judges arrived. Mr Wickes said some positive things about everybody’s performances and Mr Doyle came to announce the winners of House Shout 2023.

Congratulations to Yellows and Greens for their joint 3rd, Blues for 2nd and Reds for 1st!
