World Book Day: Thursday, 2nd March
On 2nd March, the middle school dressed up as a hero or villain from their favourite book for World Book Day. Many schools across the country take part in this annual event, the point of which is to inspire a love of reading and books. We went around the school day as usual, but it was interesting to see the various costumes. We had The Joker from Batman, Winnie The Pooh, the Taskmaster and many more. At one point we were invited to go to a mini-bookstore in the science lecture theatre and had the option to buy a book of our voice using our World Book Day voucher. The staff were very friendly and the teachers were in a good mood, (especially the English teachers!), and it was a lovely opportunity to get into reading and get those who may not read as often into it.
PGS Just Giving Day: Tuesday, 7th March
From the 7th to 8pm on the 8th March the whole school community at PGS came together to celebrate Just Giving Day. The day aims to raise as much money as possible to enable the school to offer bursaries to children who otherwise would not be able to come to PGS. The William Smith Fund (named after the school’s founder) continues the legacy of giving opportunities to local children to receive a quality education at the school. This year was a fantastic day, with the middle school off-timetable and participating in lots of house-based experiences, from ‘Design a Poster’, an escape room, and various sports-based activities. The day was based on friendly competition and having fun, and included an ‘Unloc’ talk in the science centre. Donations will continue to come in after the 8th, so at the time of writing the final total isn’t yet known. We’re all very proud of the school community for contributing to the Just Giving Day, knowing that the money raised will make a real difference to the children who receive the bursaries.
