I titled this piece 'Isolation' because the figure is isolated from the rest of the room. I decided to use oil paint in order to have the underpainting (the left side of the room) be distinct from the figure by remaining incomplete. My intention was to capture how menstruation can isolate individuals physically and emotionally. However, the painting can be interpreted in several other ways in relation to the theme of isolation. This piece was inspired by Edward Hopper's 'Morning Sun' (1952).
