Poem: 'Believe'

by Ella Krasniqi (Year 6)

Blood.

Though the war is over, it still remains

On the floor, on the battlefields, yet it still runs through our veins

This is where the uprise starts

Two new ways, but one will part

Capitalist.

The first of the two

The side often paired with the colour blue

Ownership kept, passed down in wills

No money is given to help with the bills

Communist.

One job, one house given to you

The way that collapses when people want two

The way could have worked without human greed

For most humans wanted what they didn’t need

Walls.

One was put up, splitting Germany in two

The west side worked all modern and new

The east side was hungry, cold, hoping

Longing for better times, the kinder the loving

Threats.

None never new, weapons of mass destruction

Are the rumours true?

The Soviet v the US, the east v the west

The first war that gave our soldiers a rest

Darkness.

In the communist countries the role models are who?

Those who have lied and cheated, those unlike you

Those who lurk among the shadows, those without a face

Those ruthless dictators caused chaos without haste

Believe

Close your eyes in 1983

And believe in the light that will set us all free

So take a step back and take a breath

For there are things to face far worse than death

Blood.

Though little was shed it still remains

On the floor and the battlefields, running through our veins

From 1947- 1991 a cold war was started

Two new ways, and then one parted.
