'my dearest'

 by Alexandra Dempster

my dearest,

my beloved,

my child who came to be

a coffee cake,

a berry plate,

never quite as nice as

a summer breeze,

an autumn tree's leaves,

the frosty winter changing

your perspective on life,

your challenges and strife,

and those hopes that we could be

together,

forever,

and loving

each other, my dearest,

as mother and daughter could be
