The Truths and Realities of Refugees in the 21st Century

Old Portmuthian, Sybella Wilkes Moumtzis, started her career with UNHCR in 1992, working on the Somali refugee crisis and has, since then, worked in Rwanda, Syria and other countries, with a particular focus on supporting refugees. Her published books include: One Day We Had to Run! (Evans Brothers, 1994) and Out of Iraq (Evans Brothers, 2009.

Yesterday, she spoke to PGS pupils and parents about her experiences and exploring the questions: where in the world are the forcibly displaced, what are the top issues the UN are prioritizing, what is it like working with a UN agency and what are the recruitment requirements?
