Lit Soc: Book-Making

 by Bryony Hart

Ruthy Martin, artist, illustrator and creator (and PGS Receptionist!), visited Lit Soc this week to share her book-making skills with pupils in Years 12 and 13.

Ruthy explored what a book is and why we create them before demonstrating to pupils how they can make their very own mini books using recycled and discarded materials.  There were plenty of examples on show, from intricate illustrated prints to inventively bound miniature creations.

There was much excited as pupils realised that something beautiful and creative could be made so simply and easily. Various book-styles were explored, from simple folds, to concertinaed creations including maps, pockets and pull-outs.

It was a much-needed mindful session!  Expect to receive some handmade creations this Christmas!
