Poem: 'Prime'

My Grandma’s time was 80 years ago

And many months and days and time passed now

The men were men, and women sat at home

A silent generation. Drinking tea

Heads down, worked hard but couldn't see the world.

The Ancient yew trees' unyielding branches

Waiting to fall and see the countless rings,

Long time to grow and yet so quick to fall.

Their purpose now to lay under the ground

Sustain and cherish plants of tomorrow.

Climbing rose of youth, here to flower.

Slashed last year but stronger and prepared now.

Owl of Athena jumping out of the nest

Not afraid to fly for its own freedom

Boundless prospects far above the yew trees.

Raised fists protesting black lives matter our

Masks not silencing us but protecting.

Not alone, fighting for our own future

We know it's our time now to save the world

Stand together, young and mighty force.
