‘Mortal Engines’: Film Review

 by Indie Stone

Epic chases, merciless assassins, hurtling missiles, radioactive detonation, and a cyborg, the fast paced action never stops at any point. Even though this graphic piece is based around the amazing book by Phillip Reeve, this film has really brought the novel to life. This expertly crafted film is set in the devilish view of the future: a world run by engines. A world where nobody is safe; nobody can be trusted.

As dystopian films go, this one is the most energetic and exhilarating yet full of hope.  Powerfully, the film is heavy on  CGI, but it is impressive how it seems so lifelike.  This mix between the CGI and the actors makes for a really electrifying and entertaining two hours.

This is a story of a girl’s burning desire for revenge and a boy seeking answers. Alongside this, the travelling, stalking machines of the future which patrol the last wastelands of earth are truly menacing. Tense brutalities of survival really shines through and is plainly amazing. Who will come out as the most mighty of all? It left me well and truly reeling.
