by Samantha Todd
This poem is based on the
story of Cupid and Psyche but told from Psyche’s perspective:
Must I go insane?
Carve my eyes out to cure my curiosity?
A sweet love left to rot
The disgust of shock on his face
I am sorry
Will you come find me?
Actually, I think it might be better
If you left me to the monster’s mercy
I deserve it
Why, why did you save me?
Am I that beautiful?
After all, that is the reason that you chose me;
So is the
reason that you fell for me
From the Gods, against your mother.
Beauty does not last forever
Neither do mortals
All that will remain
A memory
Of your insanity
Of why you chose me
Over your deity
