Writing Wizards: The Ups and Downs of Sport

Portsmouth Point editors have enjoyed working with Year 6's 'Writing Wizards', this term, who have written a series of articles that we are delighted to publish. This article is by Reuben Teasdale.

Technology
I strongly believe that sport can get ruined by using too much technology, because unfortunately at the moment using VAR, TMO, and Hawkeye can slow the game down, or even stop it, as well as sometimes causing controversy between the players and spectators.
There have been many arguments about VAR. I truly believe the game was better when there was no VAR, Hawkeye, and TMO. Sometimes, though, technology can be a good thing, because it improves the training of a player. A player like Ben Stokes has probably improved a lot with technology.
Money
In sport, many players are paid ridiculous amounts of money, like football players are paid £500,000 a month. I think players should be paid less because the normal person is working hard and getting paid less for working harder than the players.

The supporters
There are many supporters in sport ranging from cricket supporters, football, table tennis, golf, ski-ing to lacrosse supporters. But unfortunately for most of us, all sports, at times, can be ruined by the supporters. The emotional attachment towards sport is quite common. Most of my family love sport and I love watching sport, especially cricket. But sometimes the supporters are what makes sport. The feeling of the crowd when you score a century in cricket, or a try in rugby must be fantastic.
Cheating
I think that cheating is one of the most annoying things in sport.
For example, Steve Smith, Cameron Bancroft, and David Warner, used sandpaper to scratch the surface of the ball to change the way the ball moves. Sportsmen have been known to be bribed by people so that the book makers can make huge profits. Doping is another one, using a consumable item to make you perform better at the sport, than the athlete that is not taking them. Russia has been banned from athletics for doping and cheating.
Even though there are some elements of sport that I think are unfair, I still think sport is a really good thing, because it can bring lots of people together with successes, and losses and strong friendships are made.
