Writing Wizards: How to Make Chinese New Year Biscuits

Portsmouth Point editors have enjoyed working with Year 6's 'Writing Wizards', this term, who have written a series of articles that we are delighted to publish. This article is by Jemima Greenhalgh.



This recipe will inform you on how to make the perfect Chinese New Year Biscuits. It doesn’t take too long and is easy to follow. It makes a whopping 25 cookies! Enjoy baking... 
You will need:
1.     225g of butter, softened
2.     110g caster sugar
3.     275g of plain flour
4.     ½ a teaspoon of cinnamon
5.     ½ a teaspoon of poppy seeds
6.     1 tablespoon of matcha
7.     A few drops of red food colouring
8.     As much edible gold glitter as you like




 Method
1.     Preheat the oven to 190 gas mark 5.
2.     Line your baking tray with parchment paper.
3.     Cream butter and sugar until soft, light and fluffy.
4.     Add in half of the flour, then mix thoroughly.
5.     Add in your matcha, poppy seeds, cinnamon, gold glitter and red food colouring.
6.     Now, don’t forget to add the rest of the flour.
7.     Again, mix the flour into the cookie dough thoroughly.
8.     Shape the cookie dough into small round balls and lay them out on your baking tray.
9.     Cook for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden-brown.
10. Eat your cookies and enjoy.
