Heading for the exit? |
Recently, Meghan and Harry revealed that they no longer want to undertake royal duties. They wish to ‘give up’ their title and start a new life, spending six months in Canada and six months in Frogmore Cottage.
Harry brought this up unexpectedly, not even warning Prince William, whom he was very close to for numerous years. The Queen released a statement saying that she and her family are supportive of their decision; whilst the family would be happier if they remained to be a full-time member of the royal family, they will remain close and loved members by the group. Personally, I think this was all planned out, as Harry and Meghan did not attend the family Christmas dinner, instead spending it in North America with Meghan’s mother.
The Queen has recently confirmed that Harry and Meghan will no longer be funded by the taxpayer, but Harry’s father (Prince Charles) will continue giving him £13 million a year. They are also expected to pay back the price of the recent refurbishment of the cottage located in the grounds of Windsor, which cost a total of £2.8 million. The two simply just agreed to that deal, but half-heartedly. Financially, they would be in trouble, as the Queen is not giving them anything more.
However, Harry has said that he will ‘do voice overs' for Disney films. Personally, I think that is quite outrageous. Firstly, he may not get the role; someone who is trained in this area may be more suited for any roles that come through; secondly, his attitude is not amiable, and Disney would surely not wish to suggest to the younger generation that such self-interested behaviour should be rewarded.
So what will happen? Are Harry and Meghan really going to go it alone, funding themselves? Will this have an impact on the Royal Family? Only time will tell...
