Over the last week pupils have been taking part in the Rucksack Project, a local community project that aims to make a vital difference to this city by filling rucksacks with warm clothes and food items. They then give these to homeless people on the streets.
At the moment winter is approaching fast and it is getting colder, even in our houses. Many people are starting to wear gloves and warm items into school. In the last week the temperature has dropped to below four degrees and the streets are getting colder.
This year over 300 homeless people are spending their Christmas in the cold on the streets in Portsmouth. Imagine you on the street at Christmas. With no one to keep you company. This is a common occurrence in cities like London or San Francisco in America.
Homeless people are commonly overlooked, even though they are just ordinary people who have had a life changing problem like losing their job, being in debt or even bankruptcy. And they are passed by. Ignored by almost everyone who passes them. Like they were “somebody else’s problem”.
