Why 'Friday Night Dinner' is a Class Show

The comedy TV show 'Friday Night Dinner' is an amazing show because of its insanely good humour and the show’s great characters .

First  you have got Mum Jackie Goodman, played by Tamsin Greig, who is the more thoughtful person in the family. Then there is Dad, Martin Goodman, played by Paul Ritter, who is a really crazy man and sometimes acts like he’s from a different planet . What makes him funny is the way he does some of the most stupid things ever. He also goes round the house topless pretty much all the time as he feels it’s always boiling even though it’s actually freezing.

Then you have the two boys: the elder son, Adam Goodman, played by Simon Bird and the younger son Johnny Goodman played by Tom Rosenthal. It’s the comedy between these two that actually creates the  the show. They do all kinds of things to annoy each other, such as putting salt in the other one’s water and they even have rude nicknames for the each other. Another thing which makes Adam hilarious is the way in which he is teased by his Dad about his relationships. Martin is constantly asking Adam whether he has a girlfriend. Adam always gets triggered about this as he gets asked this every time and he can never understand why his Dad says "females" instead of just saying "girls".

Johnny also has crazy stuff going on, such as going out with his boss, who’s about 20 years older than he is, and getting a weird-looking tattoo even though Jackie hates them. In Season 4, he even gets married in Vegas, although he has only known his new wife for a few days.

The supporting cast also contributes to the enjoyment. Jim, played by Mark Heap, is a neighbour of the Goodmans but he likes to refer himself as their friend, whereas all the Goodmans just look at him as a neighbour - this is because he is an awkward and rather weird character: what he says and how he speaks and, most of all, his obsession with Jackie - he is genuinely surreal. Next, there is the family's Grandmother, Nelly, who is kind and the boys love her. But what is really hilarious is Nelly's boyfriend, Mr Morris, who is regarded as the angriest man in the planet. There is also Jackie’s best friend, Val, who Jackie absolutely loves, whereas the other hate her, finding her annoying; one of the funniest things about the show is the way in which she is continually arguing with her husband Larry.
