In this time of political divisiveness, it is time to address the pressing question
that has been asked by a multitude of political thinkers since 1926. This is a definitive breakdown of the characters advantages and disadvantages for each characters shot at Prime Minister.
Winnie the Pooh- Winnie the Pooh is typically placed as a bumbling bear with an addiction to honey, whilst these are both true, Pooh can also be a thoughtful individual who occasionally gives intelligent thoughts to his friends. As well as this Pooh can create poems, giving him an edge as an orator.
Christopher Robin- He is still a child, however the animals do respect him as an individual and he does give mature guidance to the others, which is important as a Prime Minister. In reference to questions over his age, can he really be doing a worse job than the fully-grown adults are doing at this point?
Piglet- Piglet can be very fearful and timid, due to his Generalized Anxiety Disorder, but when faced with a great challenge his fears often melt away, which would be crucial when facing this current Brexit crisis. Furthermore, he is also extremely loyal, and would definitely try his best for the country.
Eeyore- He is a very pessimistic leader, who would probably not be the best leader at the present time, when a injection of positivity and hope is necessary. On the other side of this, he is slightly more cautious than other characters, which could be useful as he would be less likely to dive into bold statement that he would struggle to follow through on, unlike a slightly different Prime Minister.
Kanga- Kanga is a very caring individual, bringing in Tigger when he first arrives in the forest and treating him well, something that seems to be disappearing at the moment. She is also calm and docile, unlikely to get angry in Parliament or in negotiations with the EU. She would be a steadying influence and would bring composure to Downing Street.
Roo- I think that of the characters, Roo’s excited nature and young years would create a naive leader, he may be able to rise to the occasion, but I would think it would be more wise to give it a few more years before throwing poor Roo in at such a difficult time in British politics.
Rabbit- He believes that he is always the most intelligent in the room, but is also kind to his friends and is very rules obsessed, unlikely to break any laws any time soon and trigger a Supreme Court challenge. He would possibly be too quick to anger for a Prime Minister in tricky negotiations in the EU.
Tigger- A fun-loving character who is constantly full of energy, so would possibly be well-prepared for the hardship of being the current Prime Minister. He is also resourceful, optimistic and can be protective, excellent attributes for a leader. However, he can be very confident in his own ability in any task.
Owl- He is the oldest of the animals, and constantly promotes himself as the mentor of the animals. He is perceived to be intelligent, however he cannot read and blusters his way through long-winded speeches with over-the-top vocabulary in order to make himself seem more intelligent, reminiscent of any current leaders? He is also irritable when his speeches are interrupted, not particularly balanced for Prime Minister.
In conclusion, the leadership contest is likely to come down to Rabbit or Kanga, despite Christopher Robin pushing them to the end. I personally believe that Kanga would bring the necessary composure and caring to office that has been likely in the last few years.
