National Poetry Days: Autumn Haikus

by Emma Bell

A variety of pupils from other schools came into G1 on Open Morning and found a plethora of autumnal objects, inspiring them towrite Japanese Haiku poems focusing on these objects.

Autumn leaves rustle.
The blackberries taste so good.
It is nearly here.
-------------------------------------------------------
The home of the seeds
A beautiful pinecone tree-
Rough abrasive wood.
----------------------------------------------------
The conker’s strange shell:
Its velvety soft inside
But thorny outside.
-------------------------------------------------------
Conker, chocolate-
Leaves gold as the gentle sunset
And that is autumn.
-----------------------------------------------------

The apple:

Huge, round and juicy
Perfectly sweet and tasty
Tiger stripes the green
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The apple II :

The withered green fruit
Falls through the air with a thud.
Lying, dying there.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Berries:

At the crack of dawn
Over-ripened berries fall.
The people all mourn.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The conker:

The shamrock spiky shell
Hiding a chestnut brown nut.
Smooth and yet prickly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The conker  II

Chartreuse curved object
Curling out to uncover
A hidden treasure.
