The End of an Era

by Tony Hicks

Over the Easter holiday, I captured these shots yesterday of MK4 Sea Kings on their final fly past with the MK4 Merlin that will replace them.

An aircraft that has been at the heart of military operations for a generation has seen its final flypast.

Originally designed for anti-submarine warfare, the Seaking MK4 has been airborne for 37 years with the commando helicopter force.

Dubbed the "Land-rover of the sky" for it's versatility, the helicopter has been in the skies since the 1970s and active duty for Britain's armed forces has almost always demanded a role for these helicopters.
