What are you doing on the 20th July 2014? Nothing? Here’s your chance to grab some friends and make a
difference to millions of people’s lives by taking part in the Race for Life.
The Race for Life is a women-only event in which you can participate
in a 5km or 10km run, in over 230 races all over the country. The money raised
in these events goes towards cancer research to help beat over 200 types of
cancer and every 80p of £1 raised goes directly towards work to help beat
cancer.
Every two minutes, someone in the UK is told they have cancer. This
recently hit home to both of us, as our close friend's mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, coming as a huge shock to both
family and friends. As a group we decided that a good way to help raise
awareness and to get people to donate to cancer research was to set our self a
challenge, so we decided to enter the Race for Life 10km.
10km can be really underestimated, for so many people
to make such an effort for charity is a really impressive and powerful
achievement. Training, time and perseverance for the run are things that don't
come easily or naturally to everyone. A simple donation can make such a
difference and make the participants of the run even more motivated!
Donations are easy to make online, and many
participants have their own fundraising pages (links are at the bottom) which
make donations fast and simple, raising life saving money. This money is used
to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, therefore not only aiding current
patients but also potentially protecting and preparing future patients, which
could be anyone.
In the same boat as a cancer patient we would all want
the help and support that cancer research provides. No one should have to go
through this alone. Donate online or text BEAT to 70007.
