With the American PGA tour coming to a close on Sunday, it
couldn’t be less of a contest as to who should win this year’s FedEx cup. With
Henrik Stenson dominating the close of the season and Tiger Woods having a
woeful last few weeks, it seems that the Swede is going to round off his season ten million dollars richer. After having won one of the four play-off events
(The Deutsche Bank Championship), Stenson leads the Tour Championship by four shots
from American Dustin Johnson. This lead at one point spanned eight shots; however, a
poor closing 9 saw Stenson drop four. So how does this leave things at the moment?
Well, in the overall FedEx cup rankings, Stenson is leading, with Woods in second, despite currently being 26th out of the last
30, while putting guru Steve Stricker had moved up to third. Although Stenson
looks set to attain perhaps the biggest win of his career thus far, anyone
inside the top 5 at the beginning of this final event only needed to win the
Tour Championship to be crowned winner of the FedEx too.
Zach Johnson came into
the final tournament fourth in the FedEx cup and is seven shots behind
Stenson which, believe it or not, makes him Stenson's closest rival for the
overall victory. Adam Scott started the week at third and in the early
stages looked to be going fairly well, keeping up with Henrik for the most part
however he shot four over today which leaves him eleven shots behind with one day to
go, meaning he would need to equal the lowest-ever score posted by a PGA
professional to even stand a chance.
In terms of Europeans (Other than Stenson), US Open winner
Justin Rose is currently four under par and is the second highest placed
European. Fellow Brit and former world number one Luke Donald is one behind him
on three under par for the three days and the only other European Sergio Garcia
sits in tenth place at 2 under. If Stenson manages to hold his nerve over the last
day, he'll become the first European to win the FedEx Cup since it began in
2007 and only the second non-American to win since Fijian Vijay Singh won it
back in 2008.
I think stenson will hold his nerve but if woods has a fantastic round i dont think stenson is strong enough mentaly and physicly to hold him of
ReplyDeleteI think stenson could win if he holds his nerve but tiger woods in second place is a huge threat to Stenson and if tiger has a good round then Stenson is under huge preasure
