Dawn Sands’ poem, 'Ink', written during the Poet Laureate workshop with Sita Brahmachari this year, has become an integral part of a video that has been curated by the artist Natalie Sirett to reflect the creative output of hundreds of pupils’ work across the country in reaction to Sita’s Carnegie shortlisted novel When Shadows Fall.
In amongst this video is the artwork of Phoebe Clark and Sophie Matheson (OPs) and Dawn’s reading of her poem, ‘Ink’, which was written at the workshop, alongside the original music composed by the professional musician Love Ssega.
This curation is also being used at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Refugee Week. We are so proud of our pupils’ creative efforts on this project, which started out two years ago when book group had access to a proof copy of the novel before it had been published. It has been a real privilege working with writers, artists, and musicians, and watching how these experiences shape the futures of our pupils.’
Dawn’s reading is at about 4 minutes in.
