Poem: 'The Woman I See'

by Sophie Escott

she stands before me,

laxed,

swaying gently.

she sustains an aura of carelessness,

which i wish to obtain.

whatever monstrosities

take place in the world

she remains,

tranquil,

unaffected.

her roots

dive so deep

the greatest tsunami

would leave her

untouched.

i envy

her ability to be so

well-grounded,

even though

she’s just a figure

of nature's creation.

her ability

to appreciate

the simplicity of life;

her capability

to maintain

visual purity,

no matter the

depravations of the world,

which, potentially could affect her.

she remains,

tranquil,

unaffected.

although just a figure

i see in the park,

as i walk my dog;

she is something

i aspire to be.
