Poem: 'Prelude'

 by  Amazing Izekor

The prelude begins with a pop.

4 slices of toast jump out to create the beat

Frying pan sizzles act as an accompaniment

Sizzle, pop, pop, sizzle, pop, sizzle, pop

Arising aromas are a complimentary gift

For the audience to enjoy as they behold

Mum flawlessly conduct the spectacle

Striking movements maintaining order

Hush, the duet is about to begin

The whining cries of her youngest

In perfect harmony with the hissing kettle

Everyone is awake now.

Given into the temptation of,

Fried eggs on toast (Mum’s special).

Here they come thud, thud, thud

Good morning.

Morning.

Morning mum.

Baritone, tenor, mezzo-soprano

Echoes of What’s for breakfast

Soon follow. They know

But they still ask. Anyways,

Breakfast is on the table.

Clinks of cutlery against crockery

Each with their own tempo

                *

I’ll drop the kids off.

Thank you, dear.

The concert is coming to a close.

Bye, have a nice day.

Cheerio!

See you later mum.

It appears the concert has ended.

Not quite.

Time for the outro.

…listen to Heart Breakfast tomorrow morning

From 6:30 for your next chance to win.

This is Heart!

And this, is Carol’s solo performance.

From conductor to star of the show

She dances in her dressing gown

Singing until her voice goes hoarse

Now, the performance is truly over.

She bows then raises her arms

Looking up to the heavens

Soaking in all the praise and glory

Alas, the exaltation never comes.

No claps.

No flowers.

No cheers.

Just empty silence, dishes in the sink and 22 unread emails.
