The Future of Transport

by Sam Kalra

The future of transport?
Travel plays a significant part in our life and without it, humans would not be able to communicate and interact as they so easily do now. As the future rapidly evolves around us, new and obscure ways of traveling are starting to become within our reach. The discovery of autonomous cars, new and advanced passenger busses and even time travel are just around the corner.

Booking Tickets

The hassle of day to day travel can be stopped by new transport technology. Recent advances in our research have shown that the tiresome, tedious inconvenience of booking flights, taxis and trains etc could be solved with one simple device that goes round with you. This microchip, that can be worn as jewelry or even be embedded under your skin, can book you the quickest and cheapest form of travel to the place you want in a matter of nanoseconds. Even better, this device can become accustomed to your preferences so it can search for the best transport for you and your situation at the time. For example if it senses lots of traffic on the motorway, it will book you train tickets instead of bus or taxi rides to avoid the congestion. Professor Steve Tooze, a special projects editor at The Future Laboratory of Washington estimated that there will be 100 prototypes constructed by 2050. We might not even have to wait that long because scientists in China are already manufacturing small microchips similar to these from the Future Laboratory of Washington.

Future of Day-to-Day Transport

Are you tired of waiting for buses? Or exhausted from constantly waiting in stationary traffic? Well we have recently discovered designs for a megabus on “legs”. This incredible design can easily avoid traffic, move out of the way of cars and efficiently deliver people to their destination at an affordable price. Mechanical legs situated on the underside of the bus sit on top of magnets on the road and contract up and down to allow it to dodge cars and get under bridges. Adding onto the aesthetic are tinted windows that span throughout the whole bus allowing the passengers to have an extraordinary view of the city. Holding roughly up to 100 people with spacious seats this megabus will be a life-saver for cities and towns of the future, because of environmental efficiency and overpopulation and crowded cities. However, the megabus isn’t just the only discovery that our scientists have found; a completely autonomous car can be seen on the market by 2025 according to top scientists from the Laboratory of Washington. This auto-driving car will contain built in systems to correct for any danger nearby. For example, if a person was walking across the road in front then the built in movement sensors on the outer side of the car would tell the vehicle to abruptly stop. On top of this, it can complete this action whilst communicating with the car behind it to slow down and this car will tell the car behind that and so on and so on. Yet, there is still more! These completely autonomous cars can be customised to the owners style; with built in TVs, lighting, games, drinks dispensers and much more. This is the answer to congestion, comfort and boredom whilst travelling to your destination.

Time Travel

The act of moving between different points in time (or more commonly known as time travel) has been a popular topic for decades. Although the reality of it is still very much out of our reach, scientists are nearing closer and closer by the minute. By 3000 you can expect to see many people activating their wrist-watches or entering into a box and being teleported back in time or into the future. Although the concept is extraordinary to dream about, it does come with its pros and cons. Possibly the biggest instance of this is manipulating the future to change things that have gone wrong. This can cause a massive effect on the present day and can even wipe out whole communities. However, there are many positives to time travel, including the ability to do right in the world, to alter people's minds or to create new circumstances where they can perform good to the world. Overall, time travel is perhaps the trickiest form of travel for scientists to get their head around but can also be the most beneficial to the human race.

Conclusion

Over-population and climate change will become huge problems for societies in the future and any form of transport needs to address this as well as humans beings expectations for a high quality of life. Efficient modes of transport will be able to give us the luxury that we crave whilst making life on earth sustainable.
