Should You eat Kiwi Skin?

by Flixy Coote

I eat my kiwis with their skin on but many people disagree with this as they believe that it is gross and even unhealthy. Little do they know that it is rich and nutritious.

The kiwi fruit is a delicious fruit originating from China but is now grown in many other countries, such as Brazil, New Zealand with Italy producing the most. It is a very popular and well-known fruit.

This fruit is covered in a brown furry skin, the flesh is bright green with a white centre and black seeds which protects the fruit. The most popular type is the oval shaped one that is about the size of a hens egg, but can be as large as a big potato. The fruit itself has lots of vitamin C so is therefore very good for you.

The skin of a kiwi is completely edible and many people enjoy it. A recent study shows that eating the skin triples your fibre intake to eating the fruit without the skin on. When you don’t eat the skin it wastes perfectly edible fruit and when you peel the skin you also waste a lot of the green flesh on the inside as you have to cut this off. Peeling the skin also takes away the amount of vitamin C inside the flesh. Not only is the skin tasty and very good for you it saes food waste and the hassle of cutting it up.

Kiwi fruit is a delicious fruit both inside and out so go on, give the skin a try. You never know it could be the best thing you have ever tasted.
