Would you like another country going through your instagram account? In this article I will be discussing the pros and cons of 5G.
So what does 5G stand for?
5G stands for the 5th generation of mobile phone networks. The first network 1G went live in 1985 and a new generation has been built every decade, or so since. 1G, allowed voice calls to and from the bulky brick phones. 2G, allowed us texting and picture messages by going digital. 3G, allowed us video calling and access to the internet.
The last decade brought us 4G, allowing us to video stream. Now the world of mobile carriers are working to introduce the 5th generation. 5G
What will 5G give us?
Well, dramatically faster connectivity for one. It could also make wi-fi redundant, replacing broadband in all homes. This would open up opportunities to have billions of new ‘smart devices’ in our homes and places of work.
So just how fast will it be?
It is said it will be 100 times faster than 4G. For example: it would reduce the download time for a typical film from 6 minutes to 20 seconds. Companies envisage that 5G has speeds of 1.4 gbps, which is 20 times faster than the 4G of today. It is even possible that the speed of 5G and its low latency will eventually let phones offload tasks to powerful cloud computers. This in turn will extend battery life and put an end to the ongoing battle to produce evermore powerful and expensive phones.
Why Is there all this fuss about 5G?
Huawei is a company founded in 1987 based in Hong Kong and Is playing a leading role in the development of this critical technology. Huawei isn’t just the leading player in the development of 5G, it is in fact the world's largest manufacturer of routers and telecommunications equipment.
5G has caused a struggle for supremacy between the US and China. But for the US and other western nations the concern is not just related to its market dominance, but to its potential threat to national security. Huawei was formerly a private company, but it's widely believed that the Chinese state has invested heavily into the firm. The Chinese law requires companies to cooperate fully with the state intelligence agencies. By doing this 5G could open a technological “back door”, allowing China to spy on its rivals.
What are the drawbacks of 5G?
For 5G to work it is required that the antennae have to be closely linked, causing it to be very impractical in rural area due to the large number of new antennae installations required.
Secondly, insufficient research seems to have been done on the health effects of 5G’s use of higher frequency waves, which could cause illnesses. Therefore, by putting tens of millions of 5G antennae into the environment without biological testing for safety could be one of the worlds biggests regrets.
Finally, the huge increase in electromagnetic waves in the environment that 5G would bring could possibly overload existing electronic systems and services.
Has enough research been done?
I conclude that 5G will have a negative impact to the UK because the disadvantages outway the advantages. For example the initial cost for setting up all the new antennae will cost a fortune and will only benefit a hand full of citizens living in cities. Finally, I personally would not like any nation looking through my personal information. Would you?
I believe that more biological related investigations are required to be carried out before the implement of this new infrastructure. Moreover, I believe that with the new security encryptions on the more advanced Apple IPhones which even America's FBI cannot break. The Chinese government (with the FBI's knowledge and advanced software being incredibly advanced) will have less success than the Americans. Lastly, I would like to point out that almost any hacker on this planet is able to decrypt the Instagram network. We have seen countless events of peoples Instagram accounts being terminated or held at ransom, so I strongly believe that government networks or private computer hackers are already breaching our privacy by accessing our social media without legitimate access codes. Therefore, 5G will provide no more risk to the network side of this than there already is though I do believe that biological related tests must be carried out before this revolutionary new network becomes available.

Delete5G will be excellent when everyone has access to it but when do we plan to have everyone using 5G and how much will it cost. Also how will 5G adapt to change to protect our new network.

ReplyDeleteI believe that introducing 5G would help people with mobile phones incredibly because it would make downloading far quicker and will also introduce new things to new phones. Although this could make our devices less private it is still very helpful that we will have far faster connection.
