Why the February ‘Heatwave’ is Not a Good Thing

by Anushka Kar

As obvious as it is, 2019 has had the hottest February in the last few decades, reaching at 18 Degrees Celsius- last year at this time, snow had settled at temperatures between 0 and 1 Degrees Celsius.
While many of us are basking in the sunlight, sea levels are rising due to ice caps melting, carbon dioxide levels are rising and animals are dying, close to extinction.

This is a result of human selfishness- we dump our waste into oceans, leave a large amount of carbon footprints, and overall are ignorant of our planet. Often, we forget we are not the only species on earth, and the rising temperatures are not suitable for many to thrive in. Part of our world is already in drought, and while we attempt to help via charity for clean water, we counteract this by allowing carbon dioxide levels to rise so dramatically, leading to more intense heat.

However, I do believe if only a small part of us change our ways of living, there is no point to solving our issue; it is only worth working on if all- or even the majority of us- take action.
