Poem for Sunday: Christmas is Coming …

by Nick Graham

Black Friday: fighting over bargains

Christmas is coming, so buy ‘til you drop
Please spend a grand in your local shop
If you haven’t got a grand,
A monkey* will do,
If you haven’t got a monkey
- Black Friday’s for you.

Christmas is coming, the pressure’s getting stronger
Don’t resist the urge, just go and visit Wonga
Though huge lists come to you
And buying makes you blue
Rejoice and keep on shopping
- Black Friday’s nearly due.

Christmas is coming, your patience wearing thin,
Watching TV ads to let you know what’s ‘in’
Or maybe spare a thought
For things that can’t be bought
And swap Black Friday’s frenzy
For the message Christmas taught.

* A monkey equals £500 for those not acquainted with Cockney slang!
