Louisa Dassow won the 2012 Leonardo Poetry Cup, on Wednesday, 27 June, for her poem, The Beach.
Bit by bit.
Sticks to my memory,
GLITTER AND GLUE.
Painting pretty pictures of the pretty golden treasures,
Sea stories whispering their secrets in the sand,
Cutting quickly through the surf with dripping knees
Glittering shells grabbing at your feet.
Time is trickling, when you return.
Whale memories stranded in the jagged rocks, unable to dive once again into the ocean.
Tears and sand make mud.
Mud, bleak and grey. Soon washed away.
We forget and move on.
The beach is gone.
