Coronavirus: Don't Panic!

by Max Budgen

It is a virus scientists have never seen before. Health experts don't know exactly where it came from, but it has travelled more than 7,000 miles since it was discovered late last month in central China. New infections are confirmed every day, despite China's desperate attempts to stop it. The death toll is rising too. Over 80 people have died.

The symptoms of the Coronavirus can include: dry throat and bad cough in the first stages, but can develop in the late stages and can cause difficulty breathing and even pneumonia. Most people with cases of the Corona virus in China said they had been to an animal market in Wuhan and since the virus can spread from animals to humans it is most likely that the first case of the disease was passed from some kind of animal.

China has been tirelessly working and investing money in research to find a cure for this constantly mutating virus. Wuhan is building a 1,000-bed emergency hospital to respond to the 2,000 seriously ill people waiting to be treated. This disease is highly infectious and has now travelled across the Atlantic to America. Who says it can't now travel to us across the Channel? However, if the virus does reach mainland Britain we have nothing to worry about as long as we stay hygenic. We can do this by washing our hands regularly and staying away from zoos and care centres. The Corrona virus is not fatal to us as long as we stay fit, healthy and wash regularly. So, overall, no, we don't need to be concerned.
